Getting tattooed in West Seattle

West Seattle covers the whole peninsula, from Alki and Admiral in the north to Fauntleroy, Arbor Heights and the Delridge valley in the south and east. The Alaska Junction, at California Avenue SW and SW Alaska Street, is its main shopping street. Alki Beach Park faces the downtown skyline across Elliott Bay.

Several tattoo studios sit around the Junction and along California Avenue SW. Junction street parking is free with time limits, but SDOT plans to add two-hour paid parking there, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., in early 2027.

The West Seattle Bridge reopened on September 17, 2022, after a closure that began in March 2020. The RapidRide C Line runs from Westwood Village through the Junction to downtown and South Lake Union, and the H Line serves Delridge, White Center and Burien. The King County Water Taxi crosses from Pier 50 downtown to Seacrest Park in 10 to 15 minutes, with shuttle buses to the Junction, Admiral and Alki. Light rail hasn't reached West Seattle yet. Save Alki's sand and saltwater for after a new tattoo has healed.

How do I get from downtown to West Seattle without a car?

Take the RapidRide C Line from downtown to the Alaska Junction, or ride the King County Water Taxi from Pier 50 at the foot of Yesler Way to Seacrest Park, a 10- to 15-minute crossing. Shuttle routes 773 and 775 meet the boats and run to the Junction, Admiral and Alki. Light rail doesn't serve West Seattle yet.

Is parking free in the West Seattle Junction?

For now, yes. Street parking in the Alaska Junction is free but time-limited. SDOT plans to add two-hour paid parking there, Monday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m., with installation planned for early 2027. Check the posted signs before a long session.

Can I go to Alki Beach after getting a new tattoo?

Walk the promenade if you like, but keep the tattoo covered and out of the water. The CDC counts recent tattoos as open wounds that should stay out of saltwater, and a healing tattoo shouldn't get direct sun or sunscreen until the skin has closed. Save swimming and sunbathing for after it has fully healed.
