Belltown stretches north from downtown toward Seattle Center along the Elliott Bay waterfront. It's one of the city's most densely built neighborhoods and has long been known for nightlife, with bars, music venues and restaurants packed along First and Second avenues.
Several tattoo studios sit within a few blocks of each other, so it's easy to walk between shops, look at portfolios and talk with artists in one afternoon. Street parking is paid Monday through Saturday until 8 p.m. and free on Sundays. Westlake Station, on the 1 and 2 Lines, is a 10- to 20-minute walk from most of the neighborhood, and Third Avenue carries frequent buses.
The Olympic Sculpture Park at 2901 Western Avenue is free and open daily from 30 minutes before sunrise to 30 minutes after sunset. It makes a good post-session walk, but its waterfront paths have little shade, so keep a fresh tattoo covered on sunny days. Pike Place Market is a short walk south.

Not inside the neighborhood. Westlake Station, served by the 1 and 2 Lines, is a walk of about 10 to 20 minutes from most of Belltown, and frequent buses run on Third Avenue. Coming from Capitol Hill, the U District or the Eastside, ride to Westlake and walk north.
Only on Sundays and holidays. Monday through Saturday, Belltown street parking is paid from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. with posted time limits that can be shorter than a long tattoo session. Use a garage for multi-hour appointments, and pay meters through PayByPhone or the pay station, never a QR code.
Keep it low-key: grab a meal, walk to Pike Place Market, or stroll the free Olympic Sculpture Park in loose clothing that covers the tattoo. For the first few weeks, skip saunas, hot tubs and long stretches in direct sun, and keep tight sleeves or bag straps off the fresh tattoo.
